Morro Bay to host Joe Craven and band

Joe Craven & the Sometimers will throw a concert party at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, to celebrate the release of their new music CD.

Craven’s website, joecraven.com, describes him as “an entertaining musician with a penchant for the mischievous,” as well as a “creativity educator, former museum curator, actor/storyteller, event emcee and … 2009 Folk Alliance Far-West Performer of the Year.”

Craven has been an educator for more than 20 years and has given presentations at more than 100 schools, universities and civic/community groups.

He has also emceed a variety of music festivals, including Delfast and the 40th Telluride Bluegrass.

His trio, the Sometimers, features Jonathan Stoyanoff of bass and Bruce MacMillan on Dobro, acoustic guitar and vocals.

The group’s toolbox also features mandolin, fiddle and cowbell, among other instruments.

Tickets to the SLOFOLKS performance at Coalesce, 845 Main St. in Morro Bay, are priced at $20.
