A local ranch family is offering public pony rides on most weekends — not out on the range, but on a bright red-and-white pony carousel in East Village.

Award-winning horsewoman Tara Covell, a Coast Union High School student and FFA leader, runs the operation with encouragement and help from her father, Ralph Covell, who owns the 1,460-acre Cambria Pines by the Sea Ranch and Covell’s California Clydesdales.

The rides cost $7 each. The carousel is set up just west of the Community Health Centers Cambria office parking lot at 2515 Main St.

The pony operation “will give us a presence on Main Street,” he said April 4. The ponies could be a forerunner to other agri-tourism activities, such as trail rides and special events on the ranch.
