SLO County football team moves into first place in Coast Valley League with win
The Bronco football team defeated the Coastal Christian Conquerors on Saturday night 66-22, moving Coast Union High School into first place in the Coast Valley League with a 2-0 record.
Coast Union, 3-3 on the season, got off to an upbeat start by getting a pair of touchdowns from Manny Garcia in the first few minutes of the game.
In the first quarter, Ramses Garcia intercepted a pass and ran it into the endzone, bringing the score to 20-0.
Quarterback Alex De Alba scored another touchdown and it was Coast Union 30-0 after the first quarter.
Leading 50-0 at halftime, Coast got second half touchdowns by Adair Ponce and Alex Lopez, and picked up points after touchdowns on the ground and through the air to seal the 66-22 victory.
Coast Union travels from Cambria to San Luis Obispo on Saturday, Oct. 14, to play another CVL foe, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy (1-0 in league play), in a 6 p.m. game.
That game will be broadcast on BOB FM (105.3).
Coast Union High School volleyball
After losing to San Luis Obispo Classical Academy, 3-2 (25-23, 24-26, 23-25, 25-18, 10-15), the Bronco volleyball team (15-6) won four straight matches.
On Sept. 26, Coast topped Shandon 3-0 (25-10, 25-11, 25-13).
On Sept. 29, the Broncos beat Kings Christian 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-22), and on Oct. 3, the Broncos shut out the Cuyama Valley Bears, 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-15).
Coast edged Valley Christian Academy 3-2 on Oct. 5 (25-19, 22-25, 19-25, 26-24, 15-10).
Coming into this week, the Broncos are in third place in the CVL with a 7-3 record.
Coastal Christian is in first place with a 10-1 record, while San Luis Obispo Classical Academy (8-2) is in second place.
