Twenty five years ago, The Cambrian’s John Brannon and Susan McDonald put their heads together and came up with a campaign to save Cambria’s Guthrie-Bianchini House from destruction.

The first Heritage Day raised funds to transform the historic residence to a cultural center and museum.

Since then, the event has supported the operation of the jewel of East Village as the Cambria Historical Museum and Heirloom Gardens.

The Heritage Day tradition continues this Memorial Day weekend.

The 25th anniversary celebration will be held 11 a.m. to 4 pm., Saturday, May 27, at 2251 Center St. at Burton Drive.

Bob Benjamin & Friends will return by popular request as the music headliner.

As always, admission is free to the displays and demonstrations on the grounds. The museum and store will be open for guided tours.

Old-fashioned fun for kids and their families will include rope making, face painting, butter churning and tasting and weaving activities at the Cambria Library’s information booth

The Cambria Fire Department’s vintage 1930s fire truck, which was in use during the Bianchini era, will be there for photo opportunities.

Come and see displays of vintage quilts, wood carving, Greenspace’s Forest Plan and, new this year, a branding demonstration.

Also new are Flying Fish Pottery and Marian Coulson’s Fluid Art.

Jim Karjala will be at work doing watercolors, with many for sale.

Retired Cambrian cartoonist, Art Van Rhyn will be in the museum’s parlor autographing his book.

Visit Christine Heinrich’s booth for tips on raising chickens.

Enjoy Coney Island-style hot dogs and chili bowls made from a vintage recipe. Quench your thirst with lemonade, wine, beer and the Native Daughters of the Golden West’s root beer floats.

By taking part in Heritage Day you help support the mission, programs and projects of the Cambria Historical Society, especially the 1881 Schoolhouse Restoration.
