Pair of Highway 1 crashes occur within 30 minutes of each other

Two separate crashes occurred at the intersection of Highway 1 and Burton Drive within about 30 minutes of each other just after sunset on Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

All the three CHP units allocated to the North Coast/North County area on that shift responded to the collisions, agency spokesman Jose Meza said.

Nobody was hurt in the solo-vehicle crash reported at 5:24 p.m., but the 24-year-old man who was the only one in the vehicle was arrested on two misdemeanor counts of suspicion of driving while under the influence, according to the CHP.

The two-vehicle rear-ender reported at 5:55 p.m. resulted in property damage. Initial CHP reports online indicated that there might have been injuries involved.

Both incidents involved vehicles that went over the side of the embankment.

Cambria Towing and JohnBoys Towing of San Luis Obispo were called out to remove the vehicles.
