Sign-ups open for 2017 youth basketball, Little League seasons
The Cambria Youth Athletic Association is offering a basketball program for youths from kindergarten to eighth grade this winter. The season runs from Jan. 7 to March 7, and the CYAA has different divisions based on age.
The divisions include kindergarten and first grade; second and third grades; fourth and fifth grades; and sixth through eighth grades. The cost for each player is $50.
Registration for these divisions is open until Nov. 30. Sign-up forms are available at the Cambria Grammar School and at Santa Lucia Middle School. The Cambria General Store in the East Village also has forms for kids to get signed up.
The CYAA also is looking for coaches — and assistant coaches — to volunteer to teach and coach basketball for Cambria area kids beginning Jan. 7. Previous experience is helpful but not necessary.
Interested persons should contact Chris Gutierrez at the General Store, 850 Main St. in the West Village at 805-909-7806.
Little League
Leaders of Cambria’s spring Little League season — which will again feature the Cambria Reds and Cambria Giants — are offering discounted fees for kids who sign up early.
For those Little Leaguers who sign up before Dec. 31, the cost will be $125. From Jan. 1 to Jan. 16, the cost of participation will be $135. After Jan. 17, the cost goes up to $160, according to coach Matt Saunders of the Cambria Reds.
Saunders is completing a website that will allow families to get their kids signed up online. That registration website is expected to be ready by Friday, Nov. 18.
Fliers announcing the web address and other information about the coming Little League season, will be available at Cambria Grammar School.
