The San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, Sept. 13, will hear an appeal filed against a Planning Commission decision granting a five-year “temporary event” operating permit for the annual Christmas Market that includes thousands of lights, holiday displays and up to 26 temporary vendor booths on the 23-acre grounds of the Cambria Pines Lodge and at the adjacent Cambria Nursery.

Roland Soucie, a former North Coast Advisory Council member who lives in a nearby neighborhood, is appealing the commissioners’ Aug. 11 approval.

The meeting starts at 9 a.m. in the supervisors’ chambers — County Government Center, 1055 Monterey St., San Luis Obispo. Details: 805-781-5450.

The holiday market has operated since 2012 with some impacts to the surrounding residential neighborhood and East Village-area businesses, especially from parking and bus traffic. Previous one-year permits were granted by the state Coastal Commission, which now has turned permitting responsibility over to the county.

According to the Planning Commission approval, the market is to be operated according to plans governing parking, lighting, and pedestrian and traffic safety. The new permit would be subject to four pages of conditions and two pages of findings.
