Good News about SLO County YMCA and Rick TerBorch

The San Luis Obispo County YMCA recently received $5,000 from Rabobank in support of summer day-camp programs.

“We are thankful for our partnership with Rabobank,” said Monica Grant, CEO of SLO County YMCA. “Their generosity provides the opportunity for families in our community to have access to safe summer programs that enrich youth development.”

South County

The Grand Lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks recently awarded the Marvin M. Lewis Award to Oceano/Five Cities Elks Lodge member Rick TerBorch at its annual convention in Houston, Texas.

It is the highest award given by the Grand Lodge to members who have significantly contributed to youth by volunteering in programs of the Boy Scouts of America.

TerBorch has been a member of the Elks for 35 years and a member of the Boy Scouts for 57 years. He is currently the scouting chairman for his lodge. He was selected as the Lodge’s 2013-14 Elk of the Year and has served in numerous capacities for the Boy Scouts, according to an email from the Elks Lodge.

TerBorch was a law enforcement professional for 37 years, including police chief for Arroyo Grande for over 16 years prior to retiring in 2005. He was also interim city manager of Arroyo Grande on three separate occasions totaling two years.
