Good News about the Food Bank, summer jobs for students and local Boy Scouts
Paso Robles
As a joint charitable initiative of The Albertsons Companies Foundation, The Vons Foundation and the Entertainment Industry Foundation, $75,000 has been granted to the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County.
As a result of the grant, which was provided by the Hunger Is joint charitable program, local Vons and Albertsons employees recently filled thousands of reusable bags with nutritious breakfast items for the Food Bank’s Summer Breakfast Bag program. Each bag has one month’s worth of breakfast items and provides 22,500 meals to children in need.
SLO County
Local businesses throughout the county recently participated in the Just 1 program, hiring one student during the summer. During the Just 1 summer job fairs held in May, 300 students from seven high schools sought interviews with 109 businesses.
The work-based learning program is the result of a partnership between local chambers of commerce, SLO county high schools and SLO Partners in Education.
San Luis Obispo
Members of King David’s Masonic Lodge in San Luis Obispo donated $1,500 to the local Boy Scouts to help support the scouting program in San Luis Obispo County.
The donation is part of the more than $30,000 in philanthropic work and scholarships King David’s Lodge has given to youth and the community, according to an email from the lodge.
