Good News for Gillian Stargensk and Elie Axelroth

Cuesta College engineering student Gillian Stargensk has been awarded a $1,500 scholarship from Southern California Gas Co.
The scholarship is intended for full-time students enrolled at a community college who plan to transfer to a four-year university. Stargensk plans to transfer to Cal Poly to study mechanical engineering next year.
District manager for SoCalGas, Timothy Mahoney, said the company wants to “support the next generation of leaders and inspire students to pursue higher education and careers in the fields of engineering, math, science, business and accounting.”
San Luis Obispo
Author Elie Axelroth of San Luis Obispo was recently recognized nationally for her novel “Thin Places,” winning in the New Age Fiction category of the 10th annual National Indie Excellence Awards competition. The novel is about loss, connection and the power of relationships to heal.
Axelroth is a retired psychologist and former director of Cal Poly’s counseling services.
“Thin Places” is her first novel.
