Arroyo Grande

Third-graders at St. Patrick Catholic School have collected and donated more than 10 pounds of aluminum pull tabs to the Five Cities Optimist Club.

The pull tabs are melted down, and the money raised from selling the aluminum will go to Ronald McDonald House Charities, which provides various services and support to families whose children are receiving medical care. Funds from the pull-tab program will be given to organizations doing cancer research, according to a news release.

The third-graders at St. Patrick’s learned about philanthropy, the importance of recycling and raising money to help children and their families.

Dylan Andrews also of Palo Mesa Pizza competed in the Non-Traditional division as a first-time competitor, placing 12th.
