Good news about Girl Scout Troop 44521 and Elks Lodge Essay Contest winners

In recognition of International Girl Scout Day, local Girl Scout Troop 44521 of Los Ranchos Elementary School in San Luis Obispo planned a surprise for a delivering mom at French Hospital Medical Center.
The Brownies assembled a gift basket filled with, blankets, lotions, socks, a headband, a Girl Scout doll and baby essentials. The troop then crafted a card of well wishes and delivered the items to parents Ryan and Julianne Brockett and their newborn girl, Cora.
March 12 marked 104 years since the inception of the Girl Scouts of America.

San Luis Obispo Elks Lodge No. 322 recently held its annual Americanism Essay Contest Awards banquet. Seventeen students from fifth through eighth grades earned cash awards totaling $1,500 and certificates of achievement at the event.
The theme for the essay was “What Can I Do to Promote Americanism and Love of Country.”
Winners in the fifth and sixth grades are: Phoebe Browning of Pacheco Elementary School, first place; Ryan Amesse of Los Osos Middle School, second place; and Aeven Sylvester of Teach Elementary School, third place.
Winners in the seventh and eighth grades, all from Los Osos Middle School are: Danya Boyd, first place; Adi Mahan, second place; and Ethan Blum, third place.
Eleven students won honorable mention.
