Good news for the Boys & Girls Club, Cal Poly students and SLO Museum of Art

South County

The San Luis Obispo County Garbagemen’s Association recently donated $4,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of South San Luis Obispo County.

The donation will support the club’s before and after school enrichment programs for over 300 club members.

4th District Supervisor Lynn Compton joined the Garbagemen’s Association in their support of the Boys & Girls Club at the donation presentation.

Cal Poly

At the annual California Young Farmers and Ranchers Conference, hosted by the California Farm Bureau Federation, two Cal Poly students competed in the Collegiate Discussion Meet, which simulates a committee meeting with active participation and discussion.

Riley Nilsen of Nipomo, an agricultural science student, was first runner-up, and Haley Warner was one of two finalists.

Nilsen earned $750 and Warner earned $500 at the competition, which was recently held in San Luis Obispo.

San Luis Obispo

The San Luis Obispo Museum of Art has received a $2,000 grant from Central Coast Funds for Children.

The grant will help fund full and partial scholarships for underserved children to attend after school classes, and spring break and summer art camps at the museum.

"Central Coast Funds for Children is so generous with its rich mix of grant awards to the many nonprofit organizations in San Luis Obispo County which help nourish children in need—a very special group, indeed," said Karen Kile, executive director.
