Good news about ASH and the SLO Phoenixes
Atascadero
The employees at Atascadero State Hospital recently provided 222 local children with toys and clothing for the holidays.
The 24th annual Angel Tree Program at the Department of State Hospitals, Atascadero, benefited children enrolled in local Head Start schools in Atascadero, Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, Los Osos and the Five Cities area.
Two busloads of gifts were placed by ASH staff on seats where the kids sit for their return trip home.
San Luis Obispo
A team of eight San Luis Coastal Unified School District students recently competed in the FIRST LEGO League Regional Championship in Los Angeles.
The San Luis Obispo Phoenixes team consists of three seventh-graders from Laguna Middle School; four fourth-graders from Teach Elementary School; and one fourth-grader from Bishop’s Peak Elementary School. They competed in three judged areas — Robot Design, Project and Core Values, and Robot Performance — where the team programs an autonomous robot to perform as many tasks for points in 2.5 minutes.
The team, in its rookie year, won the Robot Design Programming award and came in third in Robot Performance with 535 points.
