Good news for Alexis Whiteford and Elizabeth Marriott
Santa Margarita
Alexis Whiteford, a junior at Atascadero High School, has earned the highest achievement in Girl Scouts, the Gold Award.
To earn the award, her challenge was to create and install an informational kiosk on a nature trail developed for an outdoor science education program called Learning Among the Oaks. Her project included design, budget, fundraising, construction and installation, among other duties.
The trail was developed on 15 acres of private Santa Margarita Ranch land adjacent to Santa Margarita Elementary School and only used for educational hikes and activities.
When she was a fifth-grader at the school, Alexis also worked on the oak trail for her 4-H science project.
Heritage Ranch
Heritage Village Seniors, Inc. recently awarded its first annual Grant for Minors Program donation of $500 to Elizabeth Marriott, a five-year member of Heritage Ranch 4-H Club.
The program was established to support and strengthen youth in the community ages 5 through 18. Applicants may request funding to help support a project they are working on or for an organization they may be involved in.
Elizabeth's main objective is to use the funds for educational materials, books and curriculum to increase 4-H membership. She also plans to establish a library for the organization.
