Grover Beach, Cuesta police help raise $8,000 for Hearst Cancer Resource Center
San Luis Obispo
French Hospital Medical Center has announced a collaboration with the Grover Beach Police Department, the Grover Beach Police Officers’ Association and Cuesta College Safety Services to raise money for FHMC’s Hearst Cancer Resource Center.
The Pink Patch Project raised $8,075 during the first fundraiser in October. The Grover Beach Police Officers’ Association alone raised $7,000.
The Pink Patch Project generates awareness about breast cancer, the most common cancer and the second leading cause of death for women in the United States.
Representatives from the participating organizations gathered recently at French Hospital Medical Center for a check presentation.
Cal Poly
Students in Cal Poly’s University Honors Program recently made and donated more than 20 fleece tie blankets to the Women’s Shelter Program of San Luis Obispo County.
Over the course of several weeks, 60 first-year students met to tie the blankets. Nine Honors Program student assistants helped coordinate the efforts, which included buying the fabric, soliciting donations from local businesses and overseeing the student efforts.
In addition to maintaining a minimum GPA and taking specific honors courses, Honors Program students have opportunities to develop their leadership skills and gain global perspectives through community projects such as this.
