6 talented young pianists win Paderewski Festival’s Youth Piano Competition

Paso Robles

The Paderewski Festival has announced winners of its recent 2017 Youth Piano Competition.

The competition is open to students residing in Central California, including San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Monterey and Fresno counties. Auditions were held in October in Paso Robles.

Thirteen students participated in this year’s auditions, and jurors awarded the following prizes:

▪  The Paderewski Legacy Award winner is Andy Shen, 11, San Luis Obispo.

▪  The third-place winner, junior division, is Vincent Lertchareonyong, 14, Santa Barbara.

▪  The second-place winner, junior division, is Holly Hadsall, 12, Santa Barbara.

▪  The first-place winner, junior division, is Noelle Hadsall, 8, Santa Barbara.

▪  The second-place winner, senior division, is Xinyun Liu, 16, Salinas.

▪  The first-place winner, senior division, is Max Afifi, 17, Seaside.

The judges included India D’Avignon, professor of music at Cal Poly and a member of the Paderewski Festival board of directors; composer Marcel Chyrzyński, head of the Composition Department at Kraków Music Academy in Kraków, Poland; and Marek Zebrowski, artistic director of the Paderewski Festival in Paso Robles and director of the Polish Music Center at University of Southern California.

San Luis Obispo

Verdin Marketing, a marketing and public relations agency in San Luis Obispo, recently participated in the MarCom Awards Competition, an annual international marketing competition. Verdin received two gold awards this year for its work.

The first award was for the campaign surrounding its annual 24-Hour Give event, where staff dedicates 24 consecutive hours to doing an entire rebrand for a local nonprofit organization, free of charge. The second was for work with the Central Coast Tourism Council.
