SLO boys earn Eagle Scout rank with community projects that help children, animals
San Luis Obispo
Four Boy Scouts from Troop 6 of San Luis Obispo have achieved the highest honor awarded by Boy Scouts of America, the rank of Eagle Scout.
They are senior Danny Svitek, juniors Chris Smith and Charlie Reilly, and sophomore Andrew Church. All attend Mission Prep.
Each Eagle Scout planned, raised funds and completed a community service project. Andrew repaired the arbor, replaced benches and built a children’s picnic table at the Santa Margarita Public Library. Chris built three structures to shade dogs and trainers at K9 Companions, a local nonprofit providing comfort animals to wounded service members. Charlie built an accessible picnic bench for the all-access Imagination Park sponsored by Jack’s Helping Hand. Danny built a portable cellphone booster station for emergency use in rural areas.

KCBX Central Coast Public Radio received a $5,000 grant from The Community Foundation of San Luis Obispo County to enhance coverage of the Central Coast arts scene.
“We will interview contemporary artists and organization representatives in the performing and fine arts and tell stories about the long legacy of the arts on the Central Coast,” program director Marisa Waddell said.
Starting in the fall, monthly, four-minute features will air on KCBX during NPR’s news magazines Morning Edition and All Things Considered. Some longer segments will be produced for KCBX’s weekly local program, Issues and Ideas, which focuses on newsmakers on the Central Coast.
