Pismo Beach

The South County Turkey Trot team is making plans for the sixth annual trot on Thanksgiving morning, and the team recently presented a check to the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County for $13,000 dollars, which was raised from last year’s event.

The Turkey Trot team consists of nine South County individuals who organize this event annually in honor of Christine Allen as a fundraiser for the Food Bank Coalition. Another 20 volunteers help the day of the event. The 2016 South County Turkey Trot drew more than 3,000 runners to Pismo Beach.

If you would like donate or volunteer, visit www.southcountyturkeytrot.com. The team is currently accepting sponsors for this year’s event.

Paso Robles

The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County recently donated $4,000 to One Cool Earth’s Earth Genius program to fund garden programs at local schools.

The One Cool Earth program builds, teaches in and sustains school gardens throughout San Luis Obispo County, giving children hands-on outdoor experiences that bridge textbooks and the real world, as well as nutrition education that helps them to eat healthier. The program currently operates at 18 schools in Oceano, Arroyo Grande, Cambria, Shandon, Atascadero and Paso Robles, reaching more than 8,000 students annually.

One Cool Earth hopes to support all 43 local public elementary schools by 2020. For more information or to donate, visit www.onecoolearth.org.
