14 SLO high school students receive up to $20,000 in scholarships
San Luis Obispo
San Luis Obispo Rotarians presented 14 local high school graduates with scholarships to support their future academic endeavors.
Individual scholarship amounts varied from $1,000 to $20,000 (awarded in annual distributions of $5,000 over four years). Award recipients were graduates from San Luis Obispo High School and Pacific Beach High School. The scholarship fund is made possible by the fundraising efforts of club members and the generosity of the community.
The June 2017 scholarship recipients are Rachel Burns, Janae Caldera, Andrea Galindo, Juan Rodriguez, Jocelyn Perez, Amandalyn Wayland, Sophia Walters, Daniela Flores, Michelle Cuevas, Matt Hovanac, Avalon Hatcher, Journey Blivens, Kevin Glass and Mark Kruas.
Pismo Beach
The Basin Street Regulars has received a $10,000 grant from The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County. The grant will be used to fund the dance bands, hall rental and publicity necessary to support live traditional jazz music for senior citizen dance events on the Central Coast. In addition, the grant will support dance bands who will perform at the Pismo Jazz Jubilee in October.
The Basin Street Regulars is a nonprofit organization formed in the late ’70s to promote and provide an opportunity to listen and dance to traditional jazz popular in the ’20s and ’30s. Its mission is to preserve and promote traditional jazz in San Luis Obispo County.
