Central Coast water polo club heading to national junior Olympics

Central Coast

One Way Water Polo Club recently qualified for the USA Water Polo National Junior Olympics tournament being held July 22-25 in Orange County. The 12U boys team will be one of 72 teams competing from across the country and is the first youth team to qualify from the Central Coast.

Team members are Alex Andrade, Lucas Anderson, Michael Brown, Jonathan Carcarey, Adrian Eisner, Aidan Fitzpatrick, Levi Pick, Morrison Steffora, Jacob Timmer, Kyle Timmer, Logan Todd, Cahill Tucker and Zachary Whitfield. The coaches are Miles Whitfield, Charlie Bell and Justin Murrillo.

San Miguel

Alpha Mu Chapter members of Delta Kappa Gamma International gave Emilie Rodriguez a $100 Penne Ferrell Literacy Award. Emilie, a first-year teacher at Lillian Larsen School in San Miguel, will use the money to enhance her classroom library.

San Luis Obispo

Victoria Smith of San Luis Obispo has been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2017 semester at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Students who achieve a 3.4 grade-point average and no grade below a C were named to the list. Smith graduated from Mission College Prep in 2016.

Arroyo Grande

The Arroyo Grande Lions Club has honored Arroyo Grande resident Mike Finazzo with a Lions Club Melvin Jones Fellowship, the highest award Lions can bestow upon a club member for service to the club and the community. Finazzo, a vice president of the club, has been instrumental in its Harvest Festival sponsorship fundraising program. The award represents a donation of at least $1,000 to the Lions Club International Foundation.
