San Luis Obispo County

The League of Women Voters of San Luis Obispo County received the “Strengthening Democracy” Award at the League of Women Voters of California State Convention in Sacramento, held in June. The award was given in recognition of the local League’s campaign to promote civil discourse at public meetings and in political discussion.

The League’s Civil Discourse Action Team has developed resolutions on civil discourse that have been passed by the county Board of Supervisors, most city councils and various government agencies throughout the county. They have also held workshops and training programs for government agencies.

SESLOC Federal Credit Union and its members donated more than $9,100 last month to the SLO Food Bank’s “Lovin’ Lunchbox” program, which provides meals to children during the summer.

During the school year, more than 16,000 children in San Luis Obispo County participate in the free or reduced-price school meals program. But some families struggle to provide meals during the summer, which is how the Lovin’ Lunchbox program helps. The program offers free meals to children 18 years and younger.
