Women’s Club awards scholarship to Cal Poly student-parent

The Cal Poly Women’s Club recently awarded the $500 Orfalea Family and ASI Children’s Center scholarship to Cal Poly student-parent Lisa Lemos Jensen of Chino. An education student with an emphasis in curriculum and instruction, she plans to graduate with a master’s degree in fall 2017.

The Foundation for the Performing Arts Center, through the Clifton Swanson PAC Community Access Fund, has awarded $23,000 in grants to seven community arts groups that will be performing at the PAC for the 2017-18 season.

This year’s recipients include Central Coast Dance and Music Academy, Cuesta Master Chorale, OperaSLO, SLO Civic Ballet, SLO Symphony, Friendship Through Dance and San Luis Obispo Youth Symphony.

This year’s grant program was made possible through the support of donors who contributed to the foundation.

Abby Lynn Hollister of San Luis Obispo was awarded a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, during commencement ceremonies in May.

The following San Luis Obispo residents recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s “oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society”: Aidan Munoz-Christian was initiated at Saint Mary’s College of California; Jessica Chellsen was initiated at California State University, Fresno; and Sadie Weller was initiated at University of California, Davis.

Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership.
