San Luis Obispo

The Hind Foundation awarded the Civic Ballet of San Luis Obispo $2,500 through its Supplemental Grant program to offset costs of the live orchestra that accompanied the dance company’s 39th annual production of “The Nutcracker” last weekend.

“The addition of the Opera San Luis Obispo Orchestra has really enhanced the Nutcracker experience for our audience,” said Drew Silvaggio, artistic director for the Civic Ballet.

“It means a lot to us to be able to provide this enhanced experience for the Community Outreach Performance for local underprivileged families,” he said.

The Hind Foundation works to fund projects and programs that help community-based organizations achieve their goals.

Five new volunteers and a new staff member recently were added to the Court Appointed Special Advocates organization.

The advocates will be assigned to an abused, neglected or abandoned child, sibling group or young adult who has recently left foster care and has requested a mentor.

The advocates include Devon McQuade, Gloria Wilson, Eli Salgado, Rose Paysnick, Amy-Lynne Hilderbrand and Catherine Brady.

CASA provided 30 hours of initial training for each volunteer and conducted a thorough screening and background check.
