SLO County
More than 750 volunteers recently participated in Make a Difference Day, a national day of service organized locally by the Center for Service in Action at Cal Poly and co-sponsored by United Way.
Volunteers met for a kickoff rally and were placed with 31 nonprofit agencies throughout the county. Volunteers contributed more than $85,000 worth of service time, according to an email from United Way.
The event was sponsored by Cal Poly, Left Coast T-Shirt Company, Popolo Catering, Coastal Peaks Coffee and Starbucks.
Paso Robles
The Paso Robles Adult Softball Organization recently donated 1,000 food items valued at more than $2,500 to Loaves & Fishes.
The donation was the result of the recent 32nd annual Turkey Shoot softball tournament held at Barney Schwartz Park in Paso Robles.
“We had close to 20 teams taking part over the weekend with each team member bringing at least one non-perishable item,” said PASO softball coordinator John Doss.
The organization donated an additional $250 of boxed mashed potatoes for Loaves & Fishes’ Thanksgiving baskets to be distributed to families in Paso Robles.
