Good News for the Religious Studies Program at Cal Poly and the Food Bank

San Luis Obispo

More than 250 people recently attended a five-part lecture series entitled “Understanding Islam Today,” presented by Lifelong Learners of the Central Coast in cooperation with the SLO United Methodist Church, the Islamic Society of SLO County, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of SLO County and the Five Cities Diversity Coalition.

The lectures were given at UMC by Stephen Lloyd-Moffett, an internationally known professor of religious studies at Cal Poly.

The free lecture series offered an opportunity to learn more about Islam beyond the headlines and sound bites.

Attendees donated about $1,190 to show appreciation for the church providing its sanctuary and staff, as well as for David Rau and Bill Bower in helping to host the series.

The Rev. Rick Uhls asked that the money be donated to the Food Bank Coalition of SLO County.

In appreciation of Lloyd-Moffett’s time and effort in presenting the lectures, LLCC gave a $1,000 grant to the Religious Studies Program at Cal Poly.
