A Paso Robles teen suffering from cancer treatment complications will seek bone marrow donors at an upcoming drive.
Danae Ontiveros, 18, was diagnosed with myelodyplastic syndrome that resulted from treatment for bone cancer. Chemotherapy caused her bone marrow to fail, so Ontiveros now needs a bone marrow transplant to prevent the development of leukemia.
Jack’s Helping Hand, a nonprofit that helps children with cancer and special needs, is partnering with Be the Match to hold a drive in Arroyo Grande from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 30 at Village Preschool in Arroyo Grande. Potential donors will do a mouth swab to determine if they are a match.
Anyone interested in registering as a donor must be between the ages of 18 and 44, in good health and willing to help any patient in need. Visit bethematch.org/join to register online using promo code Hope4all.
