Pride in the Plaza in SLO celebrates 20 years
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance of the Central Coast celebrated the 20th anniversary of Central Coast Pride with a full schedule of events that included a drag show Friday, a performance by comedian Hal Sparks on Saturday and Pride in the Plaza festivities Sunday.
The tradition of gay pride events dates to 1970, when marches were held in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall riots that pitted members of New York City’s gay community against police.
