Cuesta College recently selected a Morro Bay standout to head the campus police department.

The Morro Bay Police Department on Thursday announced Cmdr. Bryan Millard will leave the department to become Cuesta’s police chief.

Cuesta College’s Board of Trustees will approve the hire at a July meeting, said Lauren Milbourne, a Cuesta College spokeswoman.

In a statement on the Morro Bay police Facebook page, the department thanked Millard for his service to the city. Millard began his career in Morro Bay in 2000 after graduating from Allan Hancock College’s Law Enforcement Academy. He was promoted to commander in 2010.

“Cmdr. Millard served our community for over 16 years,” the statement said. “The Police Department is sad to see him leave, but (is) excited for his future.”
