Foothill Boulevard in SLO partially closed after crash damages power pole

Drivers are asked to avoid Foothill Boulevard between Santa Rosa and Casa streets in San Luis Obispo this morning as PG&E crews fix a power pole hit by an allegedly drunk driver.

The crash happened at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to San Luis Obispo police. A Cadillac SUV driving eastbound on Foothill veered off the road and hit the support wire for a power pole on the south side of the street, causing the SUV to roll over and land on its roof.

The driver, Andrew Quartuccio, had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to police.

The crash damaged the power pole and electrical equipment, causing a power outage to a large number of residents in the area. PG&E crews were able to quickly restore power but were expected to take several hours to repair and cleanup the damage.

The road was expected to be reopened by 7 a.m., but traffic was going to be limited to one lane in each direction.
