Cal Poly professor emeritus George Cotkin will talk about the headline-grabbing antics of his cultural heroes later this month at the San Luis Obispo City-County Library.

Cotkin will discuss his new nonfiction book “Feast of Excess: A Cultural History of the New Sensibility,” on June 21 at the library’s Community Room, 995 Palm St. in San Luis Obispo.

Published in December by Oxford University Press, “Feast of Excess” charts American cultural history from World War II to the Watergate scandal. The book features “lively profiles of flamboyant figures in rock music, visual art, poetry, journalism and fiction,” a news release said, including singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, poet Allen Ginsberg, novelist Thomas Pynchon and pop artist Andy Warhol.

Cotkin’s June 21 talk is the third and final event in the Foundation for San Luis Obispo County Public Libraries’ 2015-2016 Book and Author Series. Although the event is free and open to the public, a donation of $10 is suggested.
