Broken water pipe closes block of Higuera Street
A broken water main beneath Higuera Street washed out a block of Farmers Market on Thursday night, while city workers tried to figure out the source of the leak.
At about 4:30 p.m., the city received a report of water seeping up through the pavement in the block between Nipomo and Broad streets.
At 7 p.m. city crews arrived to dig up the street in search of the source of the leak, with assistance from Southern California Gas Co.
Vendors and restaurants on that block were able to move their booths out of the way of the work.
