Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders will find plenty of fans awaiting his 1:30 p.m. campaign rally at Santa Maria High School on Saturday, where thousands, including many San Luis Obispo County residents, have filled the stadium bleachers and football field.

Supporters young, old and in between have gathered to see the Vermont senator present his progressive platform. Some sported T-shirts emblazoned with slogans like “Feel the Bern,” Sanders' unofficial campaign motto, or phrases disparaging Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

“I like that he’s caring for the common good of everyone,” said Monica Chudgar of Los Osos. Chudgar came to the rally with her husband and 14-month-old son, who was wearing a “Babies for Bernie” onesie.

“I don't like Donald Trump, I don’t know what Hillary’s doing, so I'm just like, ‘Go Bernie Sanders,’” said 13-year-old Iyrie Rea of Pismo Beach.

She and her middle school-aged friends can't vote yet, but wanted to encourage others to turn out for Sanders.

Tracy Chapman’s “Talkin’ bout a Revolution” was playing as people filtered into Wilson Stadium.

Earlier in the day, Sanders spoke to a large crowd at Santa Barbara City College. After the Santa Maria event, he’s to head to Bakersfield for another campaign rally at 7 p.m.
