Cal Fire crews from San Luis Obispo County were sent to fight a fire near Soledad on Sunday.
The Metz Fire broke out just before 3:30 p.m., according to Cal Fire.
The fire burned 3,876 acres and was 20 percent contained as of 8:30 p.m.
Cal Fire had 135 firefighers on the scene, as well as six air tankers and two helicopters.
