San Luis Obispo police on Saturday will offer free bicycle registration to help owners find their missing or stolen property more easily.
Officers will provide registration and engrave owners’ driver license numbers on bikes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m at the San Luis Obispo Police Department, 1042 Walnut St. Interested individuals should bring their bike and driver license or state-issued identification.
Most owners don’t have the necessary information available for police when a bike goes missing, which makes identifying the bike more difficult even if officers have recovered it, according to a San Luis Obispo police news release.
Police hope that recording bike serial numbers and providing engraving services will help deter thefts, which have recently been on the rise.
