Two vegetation fires near Shandon burned about 160 acres Tuesday afternoon before Cal Fire contained them about 6:40 p.m. One firefighter was taken to Twin Cities Community Hospital after having difficulty breathing.
Firefighters responded about 4:40 p.m. to the two blazes burning about 2 miles apart in grassland on Highway 41 between Shandon and Shedd Canyon Road.
Cal Fire air and ground crews were deployed to battle the flames, bringing in seven engines, three bulldozers, four air tankers and a helicopter to contain the fires within two hours.
One firefighter, who was having difficulty breathing, received medical treatment on scene and then was taken to Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton, a Cal Fire dispatcher said. No information was available on the firefighter’s condition Tuesday evening.
