Fire planned at Camp Roberts today to burn grasslands

A fire is planned at Camp Roberts today to burn 104 acres of grasslands.

The fire is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. and conclude by 6 p.m. in the range area, which is in the northwest portion of the camp. The range is approximately 4 miles northeast of San Miguel, to the west of the northbound Highway 101 rest area and south of the southbound Highway 101 rest area.

The prescribed burn is part of a project to reduce the risk of wild fires during troop training activities, according to a press release from Camp Roberts.

The burn is scheduled for a day when the weather should blow smoke away from areas where people live.

The burn will be called off if weather conditions are not right.
