The public is invited to a walking tour of the Cal Poly Pier in Avila Beach from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, a popular event for children and families.
The spring open house features touch tanks with live marine creatures, microscopes for viewing ultrasmall sea creatures, a “Discover Scuba” experience that allows underwater examinations of marine species in tanks and more.
Cal Poly professors and students will be available to explain their current research into local marine life, including protecting Morro Bay’s ecosystem, sustaining local fisheries and mapping ocean currents on the Central Coast.
Cameras are welcome. Closed-toe walking shoes are required (no flip-flops or high heels). The Cal Poly Pier is just over a half-mile long, and displays will be set up at the ocean end.
