Woman killed in crash near Santa Margarita identified

Update, 10:45 a.m. Sunday

The Santa Margarita woman killed Saturday evening in a head-on collision involving an alleged DUI driver has been identified as Denise Lyn Fox, 56, according to a CHP news release.

About 6:15 p.m., Jessica Lea Allred, 23, of San Luis Obispo was driving a 1999 Saturn west on Highway 58, east of J Street, when she allegedly drove across the solid double yellow line, colliding into a 1996 Toyota driven by Fox, the CHP says.

Fox suffered fatal injuries, according to the news release.

Allred has a broken right leg and two broken ankles. She was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI, the news release said.


Highway 58 was reopened to traffic at about 8:20 p.m.

One person has been killed and a second person suffered major injuries in a traffic collision Saturday evening on Highway 58 at Pozo Road southeast of Santa Margarita, according to initial CHP reports.

The CHP responded to a report at about 6:15 p.m. of a head-on collision between a white Toyota Camry and a blue sedan.

Both lanes of Highway 58 at West Pozo Road were blocked because of the crash, and the road is expected to be closed to traffic in both directions until about 8:25 p.m., according to CHP reports. San Luis Obispo County sheriff’s deputies were also on scene, sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Nichols said.

No other details were immediately available.
