Arroyo Grande residents might soon receive something in the mail they may never have seen before: a legitimate police fundraising flier.

No, it’s not a scam —the Arroyo Grande Police Officers’ Association is using a direct mailer to raise funds for the first time, according to a news release.

The mailer will be sent to households and businesses throughout Arroyo Grande. The funds raised will benefit police officers who are members of the association, including providing support to families of fallen officers and aiding community organizations that ask for assistance, according to the mailer. The association will not solicit funds by phone.

Mike Martinez, the association’s president, said the organization is using direct mail to collect money because “we believe it is the most ethical, respectful and professional way to raise valuable funds for our group.”

Those who donate at specific levels are eligible to receive gifts, including decals, lapel pins and K-9 dog stuffed animals. For more information, visit www.arroyograndepoa.com/donate or call 574-2071.
