Highway 41 reopens after collision caused downed power lines near Cerro Alto

Highway 41 West was closed in both directions near Cerro Alto Campground for about 90 minutes Wednesday night after a vehicle collision resulted in downed power lines, according to the CHP.

The highway reopened at 10:31 p.m. after PG&E crews dealt with the downed lines, which reportedly were strewn across both lanes, the CHP said.

Information on possible injuries wasn’t immediately available, according to CHP dispatch. Crews from Cal Fire and the Atascadero Fire Department also were on scene assisting, according to Cal Fire.

A Sig-Alert was issued at 9:45 p.m. because of the incident. Sig-Alerts generally refer to events that are expected to close multiple lanes of traffic for two or more hours, according to Caltrans.

The original call came in at 8:48 p.m. as downed power lines, with the possibility of a vehicle vs. a pole or fence, according to the CHP incident information website.
