Congressional candidates to face off in forum at Cuesta College this week

A 24th Congressional District candidate forum will be held April 21 at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, hosted by the community college, Associated Students of Cuesta College, Charter Communications and Cox Communications.

All nine candidates vying to succeed retiring Rep. Lois Capps, D-Santa Barbara, are scheduled to attend, according to a news release: Katcho Achadjian, Republican, state assemblyman; Salud Carbajal, Democrat, Santa Barbara County supervisor; Justin Fareed, Republican, Santa Barbara businessman; Steve Isakson, independent, Atascadero engineer; Matt Kokkonen, Republican; Benjamin Lucas, Democrat; William Ostrander, Democrat, San Luis Obispo farmer; Helene Schneider, Democrat, Santa Barbara mayor; and John Uebersax, independent, self-employed statistician.

The two-hour event will be moderated by “Charter Local Edition” anchor Brad Pomerance and start with questions from Cuesta College faculty and students and inquiries collected from the audience. The forum will be cablecast at a later date on Charter Channel 188, Cox Channel 8, and the California Channel (177 on the Charter’s San Luis Obispo County system).

The forum will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Cuesta College Associated Students Auditorium, Building 5400, Room 5401, on the San Luis Obispo campus. The event is free, but reserved seating is available by emailing CD24@charter.com. Free parking will be available in Lots 2 and 2A on a first-come, first-served basis.
