Navy sailor reported missing off North Carolina coast is Paso graduate
Paso Robles High School graduate Taylor KayJean Machado has been identified as the sailor who was reported missing last weekend from the Virginia-based USS Carter Hall.
Machado was part of the class of 2013, according to her grandfather, Bob Machado.
The Virginian-Pilot reports the Petty Officer 3rd Class disappeared April 9 from the dock landing ship, which was conducting training operations for a future deployment.
Machado enlisted in 2013. She reported to the Carter Hall in May 2014.
Officials say the Navy, assisted by the Coast Guard, searched for Machado for about 72 hours in an area off the coast of Cape Hatteras, N.C., before suspending the search Tuesday afternoon.
The Carter Hall is part of the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group based at Naval Station Norfolk.
