Paraglider tangled in Templeton power lines causes outages

A paraglider was rescued Thursday afternoon after becoming tangled in power lines in Templeton, according to Cal Fire spokeswoman Stacey Salazar.

Cal Fire received a call for help around 11:36 a.m.

The paraglider was stuck near the dead end of Rossi Road, south of Trader Joe’s. The paraglider was rescued shortly after 12:50 p.m., Salazar said. She was uncertain of the paraglider’s condition.

Cal Fire, Templeton Fire Department and Atascadero Fire Department assisted with the incident.

As a result of the accident, about 2,300 customers lost power, said Tom Cuddy, PG&E spokesman.

The power outage, which affected Templeton residents around Vineyard Drive, began around noon. Power was restored to all but 11 customers by 12:58 p.m.

Templeton Elementary School, Templeton Middle School and Templeton High School also lost power for about an hour Thursday afternoon, according to an email from district superintendent Joe Koski. Vineyard Elementary School had power but lost Internet service, the email said. The schools conducted business as usual using natural light and air flow, Koski wrote.
