Powder in suspicious package investigated at Grover Beach home
Authorities investigated a suspicious package at a Grover Beach home Sunday before determining the contents of the package were not dangerous, according to Grover Beach police Cmdr. Angelo Limon.
A resident on the 300 block of North 11th Street received what was believed to be a package from Amazon around 3:45 p.m. Saturday. He was expecting plumbing parts ordered through Amazon, according to Limon.
However, inside the package was a bottle of hot sauce, a package of men’s briefs and some women’s stockings, Limon said. The items were covered in a white powdery substance.
The resident notified police Sunday morning. Officers were dispatched to the scene about 10 a.m.
The San Luis Obispo County Hazardous Materials Team, San Luis Obispo County Environmental Health Services, the FBI, Grover Beach police, Cal Fire and Five Cities Fire Authority responded to determine what the substance was and where the package came from, Limon said.
The white powdery substance found in the package appeared to be a cosmetic substance and not a chemical or hazardous substance, Limon said.
North 11th Street was blocked off from Brighton Avenue to Newport Avenue while authorities investigated.
The neighborhood was not in any danger; everything was contained to the single residence, Limon said.
The package was removed for further examination, and the investigation is ongoing, Grover Beach police Chief John Peters said.
