Author of book on Israel’s water efficiency to speak at Cal Poly
The author of a book that examines how Israel can be a model for solving a global water crisis will speak at Cal Poly on April 6.
Seth M. Siegel, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a board member for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, will speak at Cal Poly at 7 p.m. at Spanos Theatre.
Siegel is the author of “Let There Be Water: Israel’s Solution for a Water-Starved World.”
The book discusses a pending global water shortage and cites how Israel can be a model for innovative water engineering and water-use practices, according to event organizers.
A complimentary book will be given to all who attend, and an additional surprise gift will be handed out to the first 300 people in attendance.
The U.S. government predicts that 40 of its 50 states — and 60 percent of the Earth’s land surface — will soon face alarming gaps between the supply and growing demand for water, according to Cal Poly officials. Without imminent action, the impacts could cause an increase in food prices, slow economic growth and give rise to political instability.
The event is free and open to the public.
