Los Osos Valley Road overpass to be celebrated with ribbon-cutting
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Tuesday morning to celebrate the completion of the Los Osos Valley Road widening project over Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo.
The ceremony marks the end of a massive improvement project that has been planned and developed for at least 20 years, according to city officials. The project finished two months ahead of schedule and is expected to come in under its approximately $24 million budget, according to a news release.
Construction to widen Los Osos Valley Road between the Calle Joaquin intersection and South Higuera Street officially started in October 2014 with the chopping down of about 100 trees. A new two-lane bridge over Highway 101 was constructed to carry eastbound traffic on Los Osos Valley Road, with the existing bridge carrying westbound travelers.
San Luis Obispo was the lead agency on the project, with construction oversight provided by Caltrans, according to a news release. The project was a collaborative effort between those agencies and the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments (SLOCOG) to make the roadway safer and more efficient for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.
The ceremony starts at 10 a.m. at the Hampton Inn & Suites parking lot, 1530 Calle Joaquin, and will feature Mayor Jan Marx and other elected officials, as well as representatives from Caltrans and SLOCOG.
