SLO Regional Rideshare has launched a new Twitter account, @511TravelInfo, for commuters to get live updates of lane closures, traffic hazards and roadway incident reports on highways around the county.

The tweets are generated using live data feeds from Caltrans and CHP, according to a news release from SLO Regional Rideshare, a division of the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments.

The information posted includes the highway or route affected, the type of closure or incident, the date and time posted and a map link for the location. Highways include U.S. Highway 101 and State Routes 1, 41 and 46.

Commuters can also visit the Rideshare SLO 511 website at www.slo511.org, or dial 511 for travel information. SLO Regional Rideshare introduced 511 services to the area in 2009 and manages telephone and Web-based tools to serve as a one-stop shop for transportation-related information, according to the news release.
