Five Cities weed abatement inspections to begin next week
Next week, the Five Cities Fire Authority will begin its annual weed abatement program in an effort to clear out potential fuel for wildfires around South County homes.
Beginning Monday, the inspections will be carried out for residences in the cities of Arroyo Grande and Grover Beach, as well as within the Oceano Community Services District. During those inspections, which will run through April 1, properties not in compliance with the Fire Authority’s weed abatement guidelines will receive a “Notice to Abate Fire Hazard.”
Residents will then have until May 11 to remove those hazards before agency staff performs a second round of inspections. At that point, properties still out of compliance will have the brush cleared by a contractor and the property owner will be billed for that work.
More information about the weed abatement program can be found on the Five Cities Fire Authority website, www.fivecitiesfireauthority.org, or by calling the agency’s vegetation management division at 473-5486.
