Police name missing man they say jumped off Pismo Pier

The Pismo Beach Police Department has released the name of the man they say jumped off the Pismo Pier late Saturday night before going missing.

Police tentatively identified Marco Antonio Reyes Jr., 28, of Tulare as the man who witnesses say voluntarily jumped from the end of the pier Saturday.

As of late Monday afternoon, Reyes had not been located.

At about 9:41 p.m. Saturday, Pismo Beach police and Cal Fire rescue units responded to reports of a man in the water in distress. A witness reported the man was swimming normally after the jump and initially declined help. But he was heard yelling minutes later, and witnesses lost sight of him in the dark.

After a search involving police, Cal Fire, California State Parks rangers and the U.S. Coast Guard, operations were suspended early Sunday morning and restarted at sunrise with a CHP helicopter. The search was again suspended Sunday afternoon.

Jumping off the pier is unlawful at any time, according to Pismo Beach’s website. Anyone with information about Reyes or his whereabouts is asked to call the police department at 773-7019.
